Dancing Shaker Card

I love it when I have an idea and the card turns out just like I hoped it would!

The first thing I did was create this background. I applied Tombow Mono Multi Glue to the back of the stencil included in the February My Monthly Hero kit from Hero Arts and let it dry. When it’s dry it remains tacky. I placed the stencil on top of a piece of watercolor paper. I painted over the stencil with Kuretake Gansai Tambi gold watercolor. It took a few coats to get the rich color I ended up with.

I learned a few things after doing this. First, the paper I used was too soft. The tacky back of the stencil pulled up the paper in spots. Second, remove the stencil while letting it dry between coats. If I had done this I could have prevented some of the paint from drying under the stencil. Third, a white gel pen can fix a lot of mistakes! Even though the background had some problems I was still able to use it in a way that makes them unnoticeable.

To create the card I colored the dancer using the following Copic Markers:

Skin: E00, E11

Gloves and feathers: YR12, Y17

I cut the star from Gina K Black Onyx card stock using the largest Spellbinders Nestabilities Stars Five Etched Dies. I stamped the sentiment from the kit with Versamark Ink and embossed with Ranger gold embossing powder. I adhered the transparency behind the star using Scor-tape. Next I added a double layer of foam tape around the edges of the star and covered the entire back as well. The dancers were adhered to gold thread using scor-tape and placed between the two layers of foam tape. I added a lot of sequins from the kit inside the Star then placed the background watercolor piece onto the foam tape. The last thing I did was add gold sequins all over the front of the card.

I posted a slow motion video of the dancers on my Instagram account. Enjoy!
