Aquarium Frame Card

This has become one of my favorite ways to use the frame dies that often come with Hero Arts My Monthly Hero Kits. This is the third time I’ve done this so I’ve decided to share what I do.

Supplies:

March 2019 My Monthly Hero Kit

Bristol Smooth Card stock

Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers: Pale Green, Marine Green, Green Shadow, Persian Green, Yellow, Orange, Carmine Red, Light Carmine, Pink Haze, Haze Blue, Light Blue, Cobalt Blue, Gray, Fog Gray, Blender, Deep Blue, Deep Red, Scarlet Red

Gina K Connect Glue

Distress Sprayer

Mini ink blending tool

I die cut the frame die four times from 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card stock. I set three aside and colored on one of them. First I put down some dark color then blended with a lighter color. In some spots I used the blender pen to blend out to an even lighter color especially along the outer edges.

Once the first layer of coloring was dry I went back in and added some more color and detail. Those dots on the coral and starfish are my favorite. I did not blend any of this out.

In the previous cards I used a water brush pen to blend the color. This time I used the blender pen. I think I like the watercolor effect that happens with the water brush pen better.

I used a blending tool to add both blue inks in the kit to create the background. I sprayed it with water and dabbed it with a towel. I stamped the greeting with the same blue inks. I glued the frame layers together with the liquid glue. The previous frame cards used fun foam behind them. I think I like that better since getting all these layers lined up was a big hassle.

As with the previous cards I did not add any embellishments. I kept the background clean and simple to keep the focus on the colored frame. I’ve included the other cards below. You can also find them on my Instagram account.

I hope you found this tutorial enjoyable and helpful. I’d love any comments or questions you have!
