Mermaid Birthday card

Today my Anna turns 13. She requested a mermaid card so how could I refuse her!

Supplies:

Honey Bee Stamps Under the Sea stamps and dies

Honey Bee Stamps Mermaid song stamps

Honey Bee Stamps Ocean Scene Builder stencil

Bristol Smooth Card Stock

Distress oxides in Mowed Lawn, Mermaid Lagoon , Tumbled Glass, Chipped Saphire and Black Soot

Hero Arts Unicorn White Pigment Ink

Hero Arts White Detail embossing powder

Versamark

Zig Clean Color Real Real Brush Markers

Sakura Stardust pen

Star Dust Stickles

Nuvo Drops in Morning Dew

Scotch Foam Tape

Gina K Connect Glue

Sakura white gel pen

Tonic Aqua Shimmer Pen

Gina K Amalgam Ink in Jet Black

I began by blending the blue oxide inks onto a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2″ piece of card stock. Then I added the wide light rays and water light reflection stenciling with the white ink. Next I added the ocean elements stenciling with green oxide ink to give more depth.

I stamped and colored the stamped images with the zig markers but unfortunately did not keep track of the colors I used. For the mermaid’s tail I added light blue to most of it blending it out with blue haze. Then I added spots of light violet. I used the blender pen to blend the blue and purple together without losing the color variation. I die cut all the pieces.

I placed everything approximately where I wanted them on the card. This is when I decided on the sentiment placement. I realize I should have done it sooner but I don’t plan ahead for sentiments all the time. I also decided where to add heat embossed bubbles. I stamped the sentiment and bubbles and heat embossed them before adhering anything to the card.

I added the mermaid with foam tape. Next I added the larger images to the bottom. I then added the smaller images to make the “sea floor” look very full. some were popped up on foam tape while others were adhered flat. I adhered the swimming creatures with foam tape. I made sure there were some items hanging off the side and cut the excess once everything was attached.

I added highlights with a white gel pen and the stardust pen. I used the shimmer pen to add more sparkle then added stickles inside the embossed bubbles. I used one of the ocean elements stencils to help place and arrange the Nuvo Drops.

This card is overflowing with images and sparkle and is absolutely perfect for my girl! Thanks for checking out this post. I hope you enjoyed it!
