With the holidays over I’m getting back to working on the Altenew Educator Certification Program. I just completed the All About Layering 2 class and have learned a lot.
For this card, I began with a 4 1/4 x 5″ piece of Neenah 110lb cardstock. I have found that this paper works better for me than Bristol Smooth. The Neenah gives a crisper image where the Bristol leaves a halo around the image and the layers bleed into each other even after letting them dry. This is what works for me and may be different for others but I thought I’d share.
Using the most solid layer of the Antique Roses Stamp Set, I laid out my stamps until I arranged them how I liked them best. My arrangement does require masking but it was quite easy. I began by stamping the first layer of the largest flower in lightest pink in the Cherry Blossom Mini Ink Cube Set then stamping the image onto masking paper.
You may need to let the ink dry on your masking paper before continuing as some have a coating that keeps inks wet. I cut out the flower just inside the stamping. This did not need to be very precise. Enough that there would be no white line but not too much so the colors overlapped.
I placed the mask on my first flower then repeated these steps for the second flower. In retrospect, I think my design would have looked better if I had stamped a leaf before stamping the second flower. I repeated these steps for the leaves using Green Meadows Mini Ink Cube Set.
Once done, I removed all the masks and repeated the above steps for each layer using the next darkest color from the ink sets. The last layer of the flowers was stamped ink black. It’s important to remember to place the mask over the image after it’s stamped so as not to stamp on the overlapping areas.
I stamped the greeting in Obsidian Pigment Ink. It’s the first time I’ve used it and I love it. Once it was dry I added shadows with C1 and C3 Copic markers to the greeting as well as the flowers and leaves. I used a ruler and a Copic Multiliner to create an outline 1/4″ from the edge. I decided to also add a shadow to this line.
I was inspired by many cards in various lessons in this class. In lesson 2, I like both the layout and the one layer design of the second card example. In lesson 6, I was inspired by all three card examples, particularly for simplicity, having no outline for the stamp, being one layer and the layout of the design. Lesson 9 inspired me to use a no outline, multi layer stamp set.
I’m glad to be back to completing my third class for the Altenew Educator Certification Program Level 1. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and maybe found it useful. I’d love to read your comments. Thanks for visiting!
Jennifer! This is totally amazing! So brilliant! It looks so simple but wow, so much work!
Thank you for adding your work to the AECP assignment gallery. Well done!
