Watercolored Die Cuts – Altenew Craft-a-Flower Rose

Hello! I wanted to try something a little different with the Craft-a-Flower Rose Layering Dies from Altenew. It’s also ON SALE 15% off through the 24th! I thought I’d give watercoloring a try and I think it turned out pretty good!

Die cut all flower and leaf pieces from watercolor paper.

Using a size 6 brush, wet the bottom layer die cut with water. Add watered down paint, helping to spread it out with brush. I used the Sakura Koi Travel Pan Set of 36, colors Crimson Lake and Indigo.

For each layer add less water to make it a bit darker each time. Or mix two colors together to add contrast.

As die cuts are drying, splatter on a slightly darker color. Once dry, splatter white gold metallic watercolor. Allow to thoroughly dry.

For the background, using the same watercolor paper, add water with 1” brush. Add watered down Payne’s Gray paint.

Begin adding the turquoise paint from top left corner allowing it to spread. Paint over it with gray to dull it down a bit.

Add some red paint about halfway down and repeat the gray. Once dry, splatter on white gold paint. Allow to thoroughly dry.

Use liquid glue to adhere die cuts together. Add rose with foam tape. Add foam tape to the tips of the leaves to pop them up, placing the stems flat under the rose.

Stamp the sentiment from Best Sentiments Stamp Set on white cardstock with Obsidian Pigment Ink. Adhere with foam tape.

Adhere panel to white A2 card base with adhesive tape to make sure it is thoroughly secured.

Do you enjoy watercoloring on your cards? Have you watercolored die cuts? I’m not usually comfortable with the lack of control from watercolor but I think using it on die cuts helped me keep a little control.
