AECP Level 1: Easy Die Cutting Techniques

Hello! I’ve just finished the Easy Die Cutting Techniques class with Yana Smakula for The Altenew Educator Certification Program. I was inspired by lesson 1, Stamps and Matching Dies and lesson 4, Embossing with Dies.

Some links below are affiliate links. At no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase.

I began by stamping the outline stamps in the Begonia Build-a-Flower with embossing ink onto vellum. I added white embossing powder and heat set. I repeated this twice more and then die cut the images.

Using Altenew Dye Inks and sponge daubers I added color to the back of the images. I used these inks: Coral Bliss Volcano Lake Orange Cream

While the ink dried, I embossed Whisper cardstock using the Spring Shower Cover Die and my Gemini Jr die cutting machine. I followed the instructions in the manual for how to set up my plates. I cut the panel to 4” x 5 1/4” and added it to an A2 card base with foam adhesive.

I stamped the sentiment on Black Onyx cardstock with embossing ink and added white embossing powder. I fussy cut the word “you”and cut the second portion into a strip. I adhered them with black foam adhesive.

I used tiny dots of Bearly Art Precision Glue on the back of the embossing to adhere the vellum. The glue is not visible at all.

To finish things off, I cut the overhanging vellum and added Nuvo Vintage Drops in Saddle Bag, Postbox Red and Bohemian Teal.

I really love how the inking on the vellum turned out and how it pops against the Whisper cardstock. I’ve never really known how to use the Spring Shower Cover Die but this was perfect!

Easy Die Cutting Techniques was a great class and Yana, as usual, was a great teacher with wonderful ideas. I have only one more class to finish in Level 1 before my final challenge.

Thanks for visiting!

  1. OMG! Jennifer! You wont believe it but I made such a similar card a couple of days ago for next month! I saw it and I was like, wow! we both used such similar colours! This looks exquisite!
Thank you for blessing my eyes and submitting your work to the AECP assignment gallery.
