Watercolor Die Cuts – CASE Challenge

Hello! The current challenge at A Blog Named Hero is CASE a favorite card. Recently I saw a YouTube video from Tina Smith of Cards and Coffee Time where she was water coloring die cut flowers and leaves. Tina is also a new member of the Hero Arts Design Team.

I began by die cutting the flower and leaves from the January 2020 My Monthly Hero kit. Some items in this kit will soon be available as a regular product.

I placed a few drops of iridescent ink from the October 2018 My Monthly Hero kit onto my Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat then added color from the Hero Arts Daniel Smith Watercolor Sample Cards from the June 2019 and September 2018 My Monthly Hero kits. I pressed the die cuts into the watercolors to add the paint. I used two to three colors per image. Once they were almost dry I splattered on some white gouache.

I set the die cuts aside to dry. I stamped the Sunburst Bold Prints cling stamp onto a 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” piece of white cardstock with Soft Sky Ink.

Once the die cuts were dry I arranged them on the stamped panel then picked them up with Glad Press N Seal to keep them arranged. The leaves were adhered with Bearly Art Precision Glue. The flowers with one layer of foam tape and the butterfly with two layers.

I stamped a sentiment from the January 2020 kit from Pool Ink, die cut it with the included strip die and mounted it with foam tape. I added a few sequins around the die cuts and finished them off with Morning Dew Nuvo Drops in their center and a few on the flowers.

Recently there’s been talk in the paper crafting community about using older products that we already own and not having to buy the newest items. I wanted to point out here that I used four My Monthly Hero kits, two of which can still be purchased and one will be available as individual products in January. I didn’t do so because of the discussion but because I frequently use my older kits. I subscribe to the My Monthly Hero Kit so I never miss out but I still love to use my older kits.

While I was inspired by Tina’s card, I didn’t use any of the same products and I achieved a beautiful card anyway! I encourage you to do the same and enter it in the challenge at A Blog Named Hero. We would also love for you to like and follow our Facebook page.
