Trim a Tree Collection Inspiration

Hello! This post using products from the Trim a Tree Collection was first shared on the Spellbinders blog. The Layered Christmas Tree Stencil in this collection was where my projects began and they grew from there. It was quite an enjoyable process and led me to create one traditional card and one more modern card.

Before I started designing either card I stenciled a bunch of trees with the Layered Christmas Tree Stencil. I tried different color combinations including ombre and rainbow trees. There are so many ways to make these trees. You could die cut the layers from coordinating colors of cardstock or you could stencil on modeling paste and add glitter for the second layer. You could even dry emboss the second layer.

  1. Blend Concord and 9th Midnight ink on a 4 ¼” x 5 ½” piece of Bristol Smooth cardstock
  2. Stencil the snowflakes from the Layered Christmas Tree Stencil over the blended panel with modeling paste and sprinkle on Distress Glitter. Set aside to dry.
  3. Stencil both layers of the tree with the same Concord and 9th Parsley ink, applying it heavier for the top layer. Also stencil the star with Concord and 9th Buttercup ink.
  4. Die cut the tree and star with the O Christmas Tree Etched Dies. Emboss the star with the detail die.
  5. Hot foil the Shining Christmas Tree Glimmer Plate over the stenciled tree with Speckled Prism Hot Foil Roll
  6. Hot foil “Merry Christmas” on white cardstock with the same foil and die cut.
  7. Adhere snowflake panel to an A2 card base with foam tape. Adhere the tree and star to the card with foam tape. Add the sentiment over the foiled sentiment on tree.
  8. Add a clear drop to center of star with Bearly Arts Precision Glue
  9. Run a line of glossy accents at bottom of tree and sprinkle on Distress Mica Flakes
  1. Stencil the tree from the Layered Christmas Tree Stencil in rainbow order with the first layer then use the same ink to stencil on the second layer using Concord and 9th inks in Poppy, Marmalade, Buttercup, Parsley, Oceanside, Midnight and  Eggplant.
  2. Hot foil the Shining Christmas Tree Glimmer Plate on vellum and the star and “Merry Christmas” sentiment on white cardstock with Aura Hot Foil Roll
  3. On a piece of white cardstock cut to 3” x 6 ¼”, hot foil the Mini Nested Glimmer Dots Glimmer Plates with Aura Hot Foil Roll.
  4. Hot foil the “wishing you” sentiment directly on the white panel with Aura Hot Foil Roll
  5. Use tiny drops of Bearly Arts Precision Glue to adhere the vellum tree over the rainbow tree.
  6. Adhere “Merry Christmas,” the tree and star with foam tape. Add panel to card base cut to 6 ½” x 6 ¼” scored and folded at 3 ¼” with foam tape.
  7. Add a clear drop to middle of star and clear heart drop on tree with Bearly Arts Precision Glue

I think the rainbow one is my favorite but I love them both. Go check out the Trim a Tree Collection and all the incredible new release products at Spellbinders.
