Hello! It’s the best time of the month. The Hero Arts My Monthly Hero kit is released today along with a lot of great add ons. This month my cards are all about stunning backgrounds. They really make the die cut images stand out. Read to the end to learn how to enter the giveaway!

The December My Monthly Hero kit is a reminder that no matter where we live, near or far, in cities or in neighborhoods – through it all we’re here for each other. The kit includes a lively cityscape cling background stamp, a beautiful new cover plate die, and a clear stamp set containing useful messages for welcoming new neighbors, or letting friends and family know you are thinking of them. The images in the clear set have coordinating dies as well. Rounding out the kit is our popular Pitch Black cardstock, ink cubes (perfect for blending a gorgeous sunset) and adorable clothespin embellishments.

Pre-order your kit today – we estimate kit shipping will begin Friday, December 10th and continue throughout the following week.

Kit Contents:

  • 4″ x 6″ Clear Stamp Set
  • 11 Coordinating Frame Cuts
  • Fancy Cover Plate Die (4.25″ x 5.5″)
  • City Cling Stamp (6″ x 6″)
  • 4 Sheets of Black Cardstock (5.5″ x 8.5″)
  • 3 Reactive Ink Cubes (Berry Smoothie, Fruit Punch, Lemon Drop)
  • 10 Clothespins

1. Cut a piece of Nautical cardstock to 4 1/4” x 5 1/2”.

2. Lay the Starry Night stencil over the cardstock and add Unicorn White Pigment Ink through stencil.

3. Splatter white ink and shimmer spray. Set aside to dry.

4. Die cut the background die from the December My Monthly Hero kit once from white cardstock and three times from Pitch Black Cardstock. Adhere together with Precision Glue XL.

I had originally planned to use only the black but it didn’t stand out from the background enough so I added white over it. I like how the black cardstock makes the white appear to be floating.

5. Determine placement of the sentiment using the background die cut. Stamp with Embossing and Watermark Ink. Sprinkle with White Detail Embossing Powder and heat set.

6. Adhere the die cut over the background with liquid glue.

7. Add panel to a card base.

8. Add a red heart over sentiment and silver stars throughout.

1. Create a rainbow striped background by adding Stick-It Adhesive to a piece of white cardstock.

2. Cut thin strips around 1/4” from various Hero Hues Premium Cardstock.

3. Peel the backer piece a little at a time and add the cardstock strips.

4. Stamp the Geometric City Bold Prints over the striped background using Unicorn White Pigment Ink.

5. Cut the panel down to 4” x 5 1/4”.

6. Die cut all of the pieces from Neighborhood Houses Fancy Dies from white cardstock.

7. Cut a piece of vellum 1/2” longer the the panel width. Cut a hill shape from it.

8. Stamp the vellum with the sentiments from Signpost Stamp and Cut XL using Embossing and Watermark Ink. Sprinkle with White Detail Embossing Powder and heat set.

9. Add a small strip of double sided adhesive tape to each end of vellum and fold around edges of panel to secure in place.

10. Add houses and trees along the vellum hill. Add some houses flat with liquid glue and other house and all trees with thin foam squares.

11. Cut off overhanging pieces and adhere panel to an A2 card base with foam tape.

12. Finish card by adding clear drops.

White pigment ink on a colored background can have a subtle impact but really takes things up a notch. In addition, white die cuts on a colored background keeps with focus on the foreground.

  1. Beautiful cards, I really like the first card’s background (great idea to use the Starry Night). Thank you for the inspiration.

  2. Hi, Jennifer – Your cards are awash in awesome details…the Starry Night stencil and the geometric cityscape under the other one. The beautiful stripes of color, the vellum, the red hearts and little four-pointed stars, the offset b/w die cuts and on and on. You are so, so talented! TFS!!

  4. First thought when I saw your card was, ” gee that sure reminds me of the Van Goh painting, starry night.” Had a laugh when I saw the stencil name. Such a great idea for a stencil!
