Hello! I’m a huge fan of Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s flower dies from Spellbinders. Her newest collection is call Winter Garden and it’s perfect for the holidays and winter. I’m sharing three cards today and offering some suggestions on cardstock to make these flowers hold their shape.

Susan often colors her flowers and leaves after die cutting them from her specialty paper. I prefer to cut everything from colored cardstock when possible. My preferred cardstocks are Spellbinders and Hero Arts.

Spellbinders and Hero Arts have a wonderful variety of colors but the thing I like most is the weight of their cardstock. When I’m shaping the flowers, they soften nicely but retain the shape I give them.

You’ll notice the Jasmine were done with a lighter weight white cardstock and have not kept their shape. The Helleborus kept their shape beautifully. I had originally used the same lighter cardstock and did not like them at all. All cardstock brands and colors are listed and linked at the end of this post.

1. Hot foil the Plaid Tidings Glimmer Plate with Matte Gold Hot Foil Roll on a 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” piece of Indigo cardstock and adhere to an A2 card base.

2. Die cut and assemble the Helleborus Christmas Rose, Jasmine and dies following Susan’s videos on the Spellbinders YouTube channel. The red color on the green flower was added with an R39 Copic marker.

3. Adhere the flowers to the card with Bearly Arts Liquid Glue.

4. Die cut the sentiment from Mix and Match Holiday Greetings out of Indigo cardstock twice and gold cardstock once. Adhere together and then to card.

5. Hot foil the Glitter Wishes Glimmer Plate sentiment with Aura Hot Foil Roll and cut into a strip. Adhere to card with foam tape.

1. Hot foil the Holiday Florals Background Glimmer Plate on 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” Crimson cardstock with Matte Gold Hot Foil Roll. Rotate 180° and repeat. Adhere to an A2 card base with adhesive tape. Save the negative foiling for next card.

2. Die cut the Ice Skate die twice from white cardstock and slightly above the blade portion from silver cardstock. Cut off the blade of one skate, color the sole and heel with copic markers and adhere sliver blade. Adhere to the plain skate.

3. Die cut the Helleborus Christmas Rose and ladybugs from Winter Evergreen Foliage and Ladybugs. Assemble following Susan’s videos on the Spellbinders YouTube channel.

4. Adhere all pieces to the card with Bearly Arts Precision Glue.

5. Hot foil the Glitter Wishes Glimmer Plate sentiment with Aura Hot Foil Roll and cut into a strip. Adhere to card with foam tape.

1. Place both negative foil pieces on the Solid Rectangle Glimmer Plate already on the Glimmer Machine without the open areas overlapping but covering as much of the empty space with solid gold. Place a piece of white cardstock over it and run through Platinum 6.

2. Die cut the foiled piece with a Precision Layering A2 A die and adhere to a 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” piece of Plum cardstock with foam tape. Adhere to an A2 card base.

3. Die cut the Pine from Winter Evergreen Foliage and Ladybugs and the Helleborus Christmas Rose and assemble following Susan’s videos on the Spellbinders YouTube channel. Adhere to the card with Bearly Arts Precision Glue.

4. Hot foil the Glitter Wishes Glimmer Plate sentiment with Aura Hot Foil Roll and cut into a strip. Adhere to card with foam tape.

I love these flower cards. They are bulky so it’s probably best to put the in a box or hand deliver. I hope you’ll give them a try!
