How to add Layers to any Handmade Card – Case Your Fellow AECP Crafter Hop

Hello! Today I’m participating in a hop for Altenew Educator Certification Program Educators and Participants (those of us currently working our way through the program). We are CASE-ing our fellow educators/participants and I was assigned to CASE Evette Jacobson.

The card above was my inspiration. I tried to incorporated small flowers and the green cardstock and the polka dots. But I was influenced by all of her creations. The one thing I noticed about Evette’s cards is she does a lot of layering. That is something I thought I didn’t do so this was a challenge and the card took time to evolve. What I realized was there are many ways to add layers to handmade cards. So here are a few examples of how to add layers to any handmade card.

1. Stamp and die cut the images from the Build a Flower Stargazer set.

2. Stamp the flower cluster in the Build a Flower Stargazer set in Regal Kiss dye ink from Pinkfresh Studios onto vellum. To help it dry I dabbed at the ink with a towel.

3. Stamp the leaves in the Dot Art stamp set onto white cardstock with Lime Green Mid Tone Shadow Ink from Hero Arts. Splatter background with black ink and cut panel to 4” x 5 1/4”.

4. Stamp the same leaves onto Meadow cardstock with the same ink.

5. Adhere white panel to green panel with adhesive tape.

6. Stamp sentiments from Build a Flower Lavender stamp set (sorry! It appears discontinued) and Build a Flower Canterbury Tales stamp set onto Edible Eggplant cardstock with Embossing and Watermark Ink, sprinkle with White Detail Embossing Powder and heat set. Cut to size.

7. Adhere vellum to bottom of sentiment and add both to white panel with foam tape.

8. Adhere flower with foam tape overlapping sentiment strip then add leaves with liquid glue flat to panel. I cut the long leaf in half to add more leaves.

9. Adhere small and large stars with liquid glue.

10. Add Glossy Accents to parts of the flower for dimension but I think some parts would have looked good in a gold embossing powder as well.

11. Adhere panel to white A2 card base with adhesive tape or liquid glue.

I hope this post has helped you as it helped me to figure out how to add layers to any handmade card. They aren’t just paper but so many different things.
